WINTERFOLD PRIMARY SCHOOL
An Independent Public School
41 ANNIE STREET, BEACONSFIELD, WA, 6162
In Term 3, Room 8 had an enjoyable time making arcade games. These were set up in the UCA during recess/lunch for other students to play. In Numeracy, the focus was on improving mental maths strategies, drawing 2D house plans to scale, percentages and the decimal place value system. Reading Comprehension strategies were explicitly taught in Literacy to improve understanding of the texts read. Narrative stories were planned, drafted, edited, revised and published. In the novel reading groups the Roald Dahl book “The Big Friendly Giant” was used as a basis for a variety of reading and writing activities. Students had to write a procedure and then make “Frobscottle”! Science, Geography and Art have all been integrated based on the topic – The World Around Us and included learning about Earthquakes, Continents, the inside of the Earth and environmental characteristics of countries.
Term 4 will fly by, as it always does! Year 6s will be busy preparing for their camp and graduation – a wonderful culmination of their time at primary school. Year 5s will step up and start taking on some leadership roles such as organising the morning fitness for the school. The WPS sports carnival and the Interschool Carnival will also take place. In Maths students will continue their house designs by making a scaled 3D version using a designated material. Chance, data, angles, coordinates and continuing to use mental computation strategies to solve worded problems will occur in Numeracy. The class will be making predictions and then reading a novel titled “Two Wolves” and complete various activities to build upon their reading comprehension, writing, viewing and speaking skills. Revision and assessment of topics taught throughout the year will take place in preparation for reports.
